Prussia, Kingdom. An Order of St. John, Type II, Knight of Honour Cross in Gold c. 1900

(Ritterorden St. Johannis vom Spital zu Jerusalem Kreuz der Ehrenritter). Instituted 15 October 1852 by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. (1852-1918 issue). Constructed of 14K Gold with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Maltese Cross with white enameled arms, each joined through the quadrants by blackened Prussian imperial eagles executed in exceptional detail, the twelve o’clock arm topped by a pebbled fan suspension perforated with an eyelet, the latter retaining a suspension ring and period original full length of confectioned neck ribbon culminating in drawstrings, unmarked, measuring 55.71 mm (w) x 55.91 mm (h), weighing 37.3 grams, demonstrating minor chipping to the centre of the enamels of both sides, with additional faint scratching and flecking, an exceptional and jeweller-quality piece produced c. 1900 in extremely fine condition.
