Cameroon, Republic. An Order of Valour, II Class Set, by Arthus Bertrand, in Case

Instituted 1957. Type II (1961). In silver gilt, a white enamelled star with ball finials, the obverse medallion featuring a pyramid with two stars and date 1961 below, encircled by inscription REPUBLIQUE FEDERALE DU CAMEROUN, the reverse medallion featuring the geographic outline of the country with inscription TRAVAIL PATRIE PAIX, surmounted by a wreath and worn on officers ribbon with large rosette, measures 42 mm (w) x 58 mm (h), enamels intact but show small hairline cracks, gilt wear evident, very fine. 

The Star of the Order, a five point silver gilt star with alternating faceted rays and a straight ray, the obverse medallion bearing a white enamelled star with red glass stones in the ball finials, the obverse medallion featuring a pyramid with two stars (each with a red glass stone) and date 1961 below, encircled by inscription REPUBLIQUE FEDERALE DU CAMEROUN, the reverse with a vertical pin assembly with dual stays, marked on the pin with a maker mark denoting AB&Cie, and 800 silver fineness, measures 82.3 mm (w) x 82.2 mm (h), gilt wear, several hairline cracks in three arms, very fine. 

Contained in the original case of issue, a red leatherette exterior, the interior silk in the lid marked ARTHUS BERTRAND PARIS, velvet base, accompanied by two boutonnieres for Grand Officer, case measures 130 mm (w) x 250 mm (h) x 40 mm (d), functional hinge and clasp, exterior lid inked “Cameron 1952” with a few scuffs and discolouration, very fine.
