Description
Description
This jacket is fabricated from a fine army green wool, button down epaulette straps on both shoulders, each of which is secured in place by a large brown plastic button at the neck end, with a Lieutenant Colonel rank insignia pinned in place on both straps. There is an Eighth Air Force patch sewn in place on the left shoulder and a United States Army Air Forces patch sewn in place on the right shoulder, both badges in red, white and dark yellow embroidery on a blue wool base. The front has two pockets, one on each breast which have decorative straps giving them a pleated-look with brown plastic buttons at the top, each pocket with a fold over flap and when lifted up, exposes a reinforced buttonhole on a tab, so when the buttons are fastened, they remain invisible to the eye, covered by the flaps. Pinned in place above the right breast pocket is a Presidential Unit Citation, while appearing above the left breast pocket is a United States Army Air Forces Pilot Badge (maker marked "L-22" [Lordship Industries Inc. of Hauppauge, New York] on the reverse) pinned in place, with a two-level ribbon bar: level one - Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal; level two - Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. Each of the collars are adorned with a U.S. Collar Badge and Army Air Corps Collar Badge, the ribbon bar and collar badges secured in place by push pins, with a strap sewn in place on the underside of the left collar. The front is completed by a vertical row of four large brown plastic buttons on the right side, facing an equal number of reinforced button holes on the left side.
The forearm on the left sleeve has three gold-colored overseas bars (stripes, AKA "Hershey Bars") representing 1.5 years' overseas service, along with three wound chevrons. Both cuffs are of the button down variety, the one on the right with two brown plastic buttons, the one on the left with a single brown plastic button. The waistline at the front has a short strap on the left side, the strap with two small stud snaps and a large socket snap, and are designed to be joined to the two small socket snaps and one large stud snap on the right side. There are belts with a metal length adjustment buckle stitched in place on both sides at the waist, ensuring a snug fit. The interior is lined in a moss green nylon, with top entry pockets placed in the breasts behind both exterior pockets, moisture pads placed in both armpits, along with a strap sewn in place in the collar to allow for hanging upon a hook. The jacket measures 510 mm across the shoulders x 525 mm in length, the nylon lining coming away from the body of the jacket along the bottom edge, however, the jacket is free of mothing, the various badges remaining pristine. Better than very fine. The jacket is accompanied by four pages of his service records.
