United States. A Society of Cincinnati Induction Document Signed by George Washington, 1784

An extremely rare and authenticated document featuring the signature of Society President, and future President of America, George Washington in relation to the Society of Cincinnati. Set in a large frame with glass covering, the document is dated May 5, 1784. It was awarded to Moses White, and signed by George Washtington as President of the Society and Henry Knox as Secretary. A black and white image of Washington is in the top center, flanked by engraved plaques, with the document below. 

The left plaque reads: 
"GEORGE WASHTINGTON 1732 -1799 Commander of the American forces during the Revolutionary War and 1st  of the United States from 1789 to 1797. This Society of Cincinnati Document dated May 5, 1784 and awarded to Moses White was signed by George Washington as President of the Society, and Henry Knoz as Secretary."

The second plaque, located to the right of the image reads: 

"The Society of Cincinnati was instituted on May 13, 1783 by the officers of the Continental Army. These men, who had borne the hardships of the Revolutionary War, sought by means of this Society to keep alive the friendships forged during eight years of military conflict. The name was derived from the illustrious Roman General Lucius Quintas Cincinnatus (519-439 B.C.); who twice left his home and family to lead his family to victory, and thereafter, refused honours proffered by a grateful Senate. George Washington was unanimously chosen as its first President, an office he retained to the end of his life."

The Document presents imagery of war, the eagle decoration at the top in the sky, with a soldier hodling the fag, an eagle a lion., boats in the sea, and a winged messenger , with the obverse and reverse of the medallions presented in each corner. The ink is faint but visible, the paper demonstrating light yellowing around the edges and minor foxing consistent with age. The document measures 53cm (w) x 36cm (h), and is slightly offset within the frame, however, remains in extremely fine condition. 

The document, images and plaques are set amongst a creme coloured watered silk liner with a black silk border, and small pebbled border matching the exterior frame around each component. All contained within a large ornate frame featuring floral and arabesque motifs. The reverse presents a paper backing, slightly ripped, with a horizontal wire for mounting. Measuring 88cm (w) x 89cm (h) x 5cm (d), the frame and glass remain in extremely fine condition.
