A Second War Bar, swing mounted, with two horizontal push pins, measures 106.3 mm (w), in very fine condition, comprising:
A Second War Victory Medal, bronze gilt, light wear and gilt wear;
An Occupation medal with ASIA clasp, bronze gilt, stain on the reverse;
A National Defense Medal, bronze gilt, light wear;
A United Nations Medal with KOREA clasp, in bronze, gilt wear.
A Second War Naval Medal Bar, swing mounted, with two horizontal push pins, measures 108 mm (h), in very fine condition, comprising:
A Naval Good Conduct Medal, in bronze, reverse engraved JOSEPH EDWIN TWISS 1944, with two star devices on the ribbon, light wear;
An American Defense Medal with FLEET clasp, in bronze gilt, minor wear;
An American Campaign Medal, in bronze gilt, light wear;
An Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, in bronze gilt, light wear.
Footnote: Joseph Edwin Twiss was born on March 19, 1906 in Utah. In the 1930s, he lived with his wife in Fresno, California, and was employed as a stationary engineer in the hotel industry. Twiss enlisted in the Navy on January 11, 1941 in Buffalo. In March 1942, he was aboard the Gwin. Later in January 1943, he was serving on the Celeno. He served aboard the U.S.S. California as of February 29, 1941. In April 1946, served on the Monterey.
He died in June, 1978, and is buried in Rose Hills Memorial Park, LA, California.
