United States. A German-American Bund Membership Pin, by Apollo Jewelry

Constructed of bronze with multi-coloured enamels, the obverse consisting of an oval medallion featuring the logo of the German American Bund (Amerikadeutscher Bund/Amerikadeutscher Volksbund) executed in red, white, and black enamels, the reverse maker marked “APOLLO JEWELRY, BRKLN. N.Y.”, measuring 18 mm (w) x 21 mm (h), a rare pin in extremely fine condition.

Footnote: Writing in "They too were Americans: The German-American Bund in Words, Photos and Artifacts", author Scott Freeland notes on page 272: “Although a few examples of the two above pins (including an example of the pin offered in this lot) seem to be original, some modern reproductions are being manufactured in Great Britain and sold as originals. Differences in the quality of enameling are noticeable. "Apollo Jewelry" of "Brklyn NY" does not appear in any DKV ["Deutscher Konsum. Verband" -- German Consumer Association, a/k/a German American Business League] membership book known to the author. That the Bundists would have had business dealings, in either an official or unofficial capacity, with any commercial entity outside of the DKV is highly unlikely. Even so, some specimens may be original, warranting extreme caution in the purchase and acquisition of such pins.”
