Footnote: 1. Stoker A. Fox served with the ironclad battleship H.M.S. Superb during the Anglo-Egyptian War.The ship was commissioned at Chatham for service in the Mediterranean on October 4, 1880, and remained on station for seven years.She took part in the bombardment of Alexandria under the command of Captain Thomas Le Hunt Warde, where she fired 310 shells of 10-inch calibre at the Egyptian forts. The ship received ten hits in return, seven of them on her armour, with no casualties. 2. Walter F. Shirley served with the 1st The Royal Dragoons as a Private (4904) during the Boer War. He is acknowledged on his First World War Index Card as having been with the Corps of Dragoons (20670), when he enlisted for service as an Interpreter with 1st The Royal Dragoons (1D/4954) and served as a Trumpeter with the regiment. The card indicates that he was entitled to the 1914 Star with clasp and rosette, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
