Distinguished Conduct Medal, George V, bareheaded bust in Field Marshal's uniform (125 SJT: C.T.C. DORAN. UGANDA V.R.); British War Medal (LIEUT. C.T.C. DORAN.); and Victory Medal (LIEUT. C.T.C. DORAN.). Naming is impressed on all three medals. Court-mounted with swing bar pinback, all three exhibiting edge nicks and contact marks, the VM with spotting present, replacement ribbons, very fine. Accompanied by copies of his citation from the London Gazette, along with a list of South African recipients of the Distinguished Conduct Medal with Doran's name listed under the heading "South African Other Units".
Footnote: Sergeant/Lieutenant C.T.C. Doran, Uganda Volunteer Reserve was awarded his Distinguished Conduct Medal for operations in German East Africa, the announcement appearing in the London Gazette 29584 of Tuesday May 16, 1916, on Tuesday, May 16, 1916, page 4932: "125 Sjt. C. T. C. Doran, Uganda Volunteer Reserve (now Lt., Baganda Rif.). For conspicuous gallantry when holding with a few men a post, which he had constructed, against an overwhelming number of the enemy with a machine gun. The enemy were not only driven off with very heavy casualties, but their machine gun was captured." This is the only Distinguished Conduct Medal awarded to a Ugandan unit during the First War. His First War Index Medal Card states that 125 Serjeant C.T.C. Doran was with the Uganda Volunteer Reserve, with subsequent service as a Lieutenant with the Baganda Rifles and the King's African Rifles, and was entitled to the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
