(S/11204 Pte R. ALLISON. 4/ A. & S. Highrs). Naming is officially impressed. In silver, measuring 36.3 mm in diameter, bruised, edge nicks, contact marks, original ribbon, very fine.
Footnote: S/11204 Private Robert Allison, 4th Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal, the announcement appearing in the Sixth Supplement to the London Gazette 31186 of Friday, February 14, 1919, on Tuesday, February 18, 1919, page 2414: "S/11204 Pte. R. Allison, 4th Bn. (attd. 2nd Bn.), Arg. & Suth'd Highrs. (Kilmarnock)." His citation for the award appears in the Second Supplement to the London Gazette 31726 of Friday, January 9, 1920, on Saturday, January 10, 1920, page 423: "S/11204 Pte. R. "Allison, 4th Bn. (attd. 2nd Bn.), Argyll and Suth'd Highrs. (Kilnarnock). For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on 29th September, 1918, when his company had consolidated near Villers Guislain. He occupied a shell hole on the extreme left, getting his Lewis gun into action, and preventing the enemy working round the flank. He then moved his gun to an exposed position, knocking out one enemy gun and capturing another, which were harassing his company by their fire. Later, he dispersed a counter-attack." Private Allison's Index Card states that he was entitled to the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
