Hardcover, black cloth cover, the front and back covers along with the spine bearing images and text embossed in gold-coloured ink, entitled "Casualty Roll for the Crimea 1854-1855 - The Casualty Rolls for the Siege of Sebastopol and other Major Actions during the Crimean War 1854-1856", compiled by Frank and Andrea Cook, edited and arranged by John B. Hayward, foreword by Vivian Stuart, published by J.B. Hayward and Son (Medal Specialists) of London in 1976, printed by Eyre & Spottiswoode Limited of London - Her Majesty's Printers, ISBN 0 903754 10 X. The book begins with a List of Plates, Maps and Plans, Editor's Notes, Compiler's Notes and Foreword, followed by the Casualty Roll for Crimea. The roll is documented under two basic headings: 1. The Army (nine subsections: (i) The Battle of Alma, 20th September 1854; (ii) The First Bombardment of Sebastopol, 17th October 1854, First Battle of Inkermann, 26th October 1854 and Minor Actions; (iii) The Action at Balaklava, 25th October 1854; (iv) The Battle of Inkermann, 5th November 1854; (v) The Assault on the Quarries, 7th June 1855; (vi) The First Attack on the Redan, 18th June 1855; (vii) The Final Attack on the Redan, 8th September 1855; (viii) The Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth and Final Bombardment of Sebastopol and Minor Actions, 5th November 1854 - 8th September 1855; (ix) The Magazine Explosion at the French Siege Train, 15th November 1855); 2. The Royal Navy and Royal Marines (two subsections: (a) The Bombardment of Sebastopol by the Naval Squadron, 17th October 1854; (b) The Naval Brigade, 1854-1855): each stating the combatant's last name, first name, his rank, service number (some), the type of casualty, the date it occurred (some), the date of gazetting in the London Gazette (some). It has twenty engravings illustrating key battles and figures placed throughout the book and concludes with an Appendices and Index. The book contains 298 pages printed in black ink, one of which is a two-panel fold out, on an off-white paper stock, gold-leafing on the edges of the pages, measuring 215 mm (w) x 303 mm (h) x 25 mm (d), the previous owner's name stamped in black ink on the free end paper of the inside front cover, near extremely fine.
