(Orden Civil de Beneficencia). Instituted 1856 by Queen Isabel II. Type II. 1910-1975 Issue. Purple & White Distinction. In silver gilt, a highly detailed enameled purple white-framed eight-pointed star with ball finials, obverse is stylized by partially enameled gilded central medallion with Latin inscription FORTITUDO CHARITAS ABNEGATIO, superposed by a hand-made symbol of charity with enamels of multiple colors, the reverse with mirrored design depicting a central enameled white rose, suspended by ornamented loop suspension on a replacement ribbon, measuring 45.98 mm (w) x 72.85 mm (h - inclusive loop suspension), with minor loss of gilt, extremely fine condition.
Footnote: The Order of Charity was founded by Queen Isabel II. on May 17, 1856. It was established in recognition of the charity, solidarity, courage and valor of those volunteers who attended the cholera infection in Spain between 1854 and 1855.
