(Orden Nacional del León de Senegal). Instituted in 1960. A lovely set, the grand cross consisting of a white enamelled five point star with ball finials and five smooth rays in each quadrant, the obverse medallion features a standing lion with star in the distances surrounded by a red enamelled ring inscribed REPUBLIQUE DU SENEGAL UN PEUPLE UN BUT UNE FOI (Republic of Senegal One People One Goal One Faith), the reverse is plain with an enamelled Senegalese flag, the badge is surmounted by a crossed palm leaves suspension, measures 58.1mm (w) x 66.8mm (h – inclusive of the integral suspension on the surmounting palm leaves, weighs 43.7 grams, marked on ring denoting manufacture by A. Bacqueville, accompanied by a full length small chip to 7 o’clock arm and on ring under DU SENEGAL, otherwise in near extremely fine condition. The star of the order in silver gilt, featuring a multi-rayed star, the obverse features a white enamelled five point star with ball finials with the interior medallion features a standing lion with star in the distances surrounded by a red enamelled ring inscribed REPUBLIQUE DU SENEGAL UN PEUPLE UN BUT UNE FOI (Republic of Senegal One People One Goal One Faith), the reverse bears a single pin, measures 79.9mm (w) x 80.2mm (h), weighs 86.4 grams, marked on pin denoting manufacture by A. Bacqueville, several tips have been bent, enamel crazing near the points of the 7, 5 and 2 o’clock arms, otherwise in extremely fine condition.
Contained in original case of issue presenting a large red leatherette exterior with white silk interior lid marked A. Bacqueville 7 GALERIE MONTPENSIER PALAIS-ROYAL PARIS, the base bears a crème coloured silk movable medal bed with slot for sash near top, with a cushioned section near the bottom for the star, measures 143mm (w) x 322mm (l) x 54mm (d), latch does not capture lid, case bears light wear to exterior, remains in very fine condition.
