(Coroana României). Instituted by King Carol I, on May 10 1881. Type I (1881-1941). Civil Division. A Grand Cross Set, comprising a sash badge in silver gilt, a Maltese cross in red and white enamels, cyphers of Carol in each quadrant, the obverse medallion features a royal crown on a red enamelled field, surrounded by a white ring inscribed PRIN NOI INSIN 14. MARTIE 1881, the reverse medallion presents the date 10.MAIU and the years 1866 1877 1881 in the white ring, marked on the ring ARG denoting silver manufacture and JRF maker mark, measures 69.3mm (w) x 69.5mm (h), weighs 64.8 grams, loss of gilt, notable knocks to the rims of the 6 o’clock arm remains in very fine condition.
The breast star of the order, in silver, presenting an eight-point star with smooth rays, the obverse medallion features a royal crown on a red enamelled field, surrounded by a white ring inscribed PRIN NOI INSIN 14. MARTIE 1881, the reverse features a single vertical pin, the makers cartouche of JOSEPH RESCH FILS BUCAREST in the center, the pin is marked ARG, measures 90.1mm (w) x 89.7mm (h), weighs 85.2 grams, enamels intact, lovely patina, hinge and catch functional, in extremely fine condition.
Contained in original case of issue, featuring a blue leatherette exterior with the crowned cypher of King Ferdinand I, the interior features a silk lid marked Joseph Resch Fii Bucarest, the base features a recessed medal bed and storage component for sash, measures 121mm (w) x 270mm (h) x 47mm (d), scuffs around the exterior, slight discolouration on the interior, clasp functional, remains in very fine condition.
