Prussia, Kingdom. An Order of the Red Eagle, II Class Cross in Gold, by Johann Wagner & Sohn

(Roter Adler Orden Kreuz II. Klasse in Gold). Instituted 12 June 1792 by King Friedrich Wilhelm II. (1864-1918 issue). Constructed of 14K Gold with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Cross Pattée with white enameled arms, the obverse bearing a central white enameled medallion overlaid by a hand-painted Prussian eagle clutching a laurel wreath, situated within a circular Gold ring, the reverse bearing a central white enameled medallion overlaid by a gilded and dimpled monogram of King Friedrich Wilhelm II, the twelve o’clock arm topped by an eyelet and suspension ring retaining an original full length of neck ribbon, the six o’clock arm maker marked with the logo of Johann Wagner & Sohn, Berlin, measuring 46.70 mm (w) x 51.18 mm (h), weighing 21.6 grams, demonstrating minor flecking to the enamels, a striking example demonstrating Wagner’s noted quality in extremely fine condition.
