Prussia, Kingdom. A Royal House Order of Hohenzollern, Knight’s Eagle in Gold

(Königlicher Hausorden von Hohenzollern Adler der Ritter in Gold). Instituted 18 January 1851 by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. (1851-1918 issue). Constructed of 18K Gold with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a double-sided Prussian imperial eagle clutching an orb and sceptre, executed in fine black enamels with feathering and details highlighted in gilt, overlaid across its chest by a white and black enameled Hohenzollern coat of arms, with its head surrounded by a halo-style band, the obverse of which is finished in blue enamel with a gilt inscription of “VOM FELS ZUM MEER” (“FROM THE CLIFFS TO THE SEA”), topped by an eyelet and suspension ring retaining an original ribbon, unmarked, measuring 33.53 mm (w) x 34.83 mm (h), weighing 13.3 grams, a striking example demonstrating highest-quality jeweller construction, in extremely fine condition.
