Portugal, Kingdom. An Order of Christ, Grand Cross Set, by Da Costa c.1900

(Ordem de Cristo). Instituted 1319. Type I (1789-1910). A gorgeous Grand Cross set , comprising a sash badge, in silver gilt, a large oval disc with white enamel with red and white enamel cross surmounted by an enamelled sacred heart, reverse mirrors the obverse, measures 56.55 mm (w) x 91.7 mm (h), weighs 96.24 grams, enamels intact, light gilt loss to the silver border, extremely fine. Accompanied by a segment of replacement red sash. 

The Star of the Order, in silver gilt, a star featuring clusters of three smooth rays, the obverse medallion featuring a cross in red and white enamels surmounted by a sacred heart, the reverse with a vertical assembly, maker marked FREDERICO DA COSTA LISBOA, measures 71.8 mm (w) x 82.3 mm (h), weighs 45.64 grams, minor enamel scratches to the obverse medallion, the cross atop the sacred heart is bent away from the silver base, remains extremely fine.
