(Орден Књаза Данила I). Instituted in 1853. Type V (1893-1918 Issue). In silver gilt, a blue enamelled cross with red and white enamel borders, the obverse medallion presents a dark red enamelled circular central medallion bearing the applied crowned cipher of Prince Danilo, circumscribed by КНЯЗЪ ЦРНОГОРСКІИ (Prince of Montenegro) within a white enamelled ring with a scallop-edged silver gilt border, reverse centre presents a dark red enamelled central medallion with the date 1852-3 circumscribed by ЗА НЕЗАВИСИМОСТЪ ЦРНЕ ГОРЕ (For the Independence of Montenegro) within a white enamel ring with a scallop-edged silver gilt border, the cross is suspended from a silver gilt crown with long pendilia, measuring 38.68mm (w) x 57.96mm (h – inclusive of cross adorned crowned suspension), weighs 29.5 grams (including ribbon), worn on a triangular ribbon, enamels intact, scattered gilt wear on the crown and medallion, in very fine condition.
Contained in its original case of issue of with a red leatherette exterior and Principality of Montenegro Coat of Arms, the interior features a white silk lid inscribed Chancellerie de l’Ordre Danilo, the base is a black velvet recessed medalbed, measures 73mm (w) x 120mm (l) 23mm (d), hinge and catch functional, light wear, in very fine condition.
