(Medaglia al valore militare). Instituted in 1833. Type II (1887-1943). In bronze gilt, engraver marked "F.G" and marked with a crown over a "Z" on the obverse, measuring 33.5 mm (w) x 38.2 mm (h) inclusive of its inclusive of its integral suspension, edge nicks, spotting, very light contact overall, original ribbon, better than very fine. In its box of issue, maroon thatched exterior, inside lid in white cloth and padded, base with a recessed medal bed in white felt, measuring 48 mm (w) x 103 mm (h) x 15 mm (d), exhibiting edge and corner wear along with soiling overall on the exterior, soiled medal bed, case fine.
Footnote: The Medal for Military Valour was originally an award of the Kingdom of Sardinia. It became an Italian decoration upon the creation of the Kingdom of Italy in 1861, being also used by the Italian Social Republic between 1943 and 1945. It is now awarded by the Republic of Italy. The medal is awarded to military personnel, units above the level of company, and civilians for exceptional valour in the face of the enemy, in three grades: I Class Gold Grade, II Class Silver Grade and II Class Bronze Grade.
