Germany, Wehrmacht. A Mixed Lot Of Service Medals

(Wehrmacht Medaillen). A mixed lot of three service medals, including:

1. A War Merit Cross II Class with Swords, constructed of zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Maltese Cross with pebbled arms and crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the obverse bearing a central wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a central wreathed date of “1939”, the suspension loop maker marked with LDO code “L15” for Otto Schickle, Pforzheim, measuring 46.80 mm (w) x 48.27 mm (h), weighing 20.5 grams, in near extremely fine condition.

2. An Eastern Front Medal, constructed of silvered and patinated zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised Heer-style German national eagle clutching a swastika, the reverse bearing an inscription of “WINTERSCHLACHT IM OSTEN 1941/42” (“WINTER BATTLE IN THE EAST 1941/42”), above a crossed sword and laurel branch, topped by a Stahlhelm and stick grenade, unmarked, measuring 36.13 mm (w) x 43.95 mm (h), weighing 18.9 grams, with oxidation and loss of finish evident throughout, in fair condition.

3. Constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from a German-manufactured replacement ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised depiction of two gladiators (symbolizing Germany and Italy) grappling with a crocodile (symbolizing Great Britain), the reverse bearing a central raised depiction of the Arco dei Fileni flanked by a fasces and swastika, circumscribed by an inscription of “ITALIAN-GERMAN CAMPAIGN IN AFRICA” in both Italian and German, the obverse maker marked “LORIOLI, MILANO”, measuring 30.85 mm in diameter, weighing 14.0 grams (inclusive of ribbon), in extremely fine condition.
