Germany, Third Reich. A Mixed Lot of Badges for Military Service and Sports Merit

(Abzeichen). A mixed lot of badges, including:

1. A Black Grade Wound Badge, constructed of blackened magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a clip hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked, measuring 36.85 mm (w) x 44.60 mm (h), weighing 12.0 grams, demonstrating loss of finish throughout, in very fine condition.

2. A Silver Grade Wound Badge, constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with an integral hinge and vertical pinback meeting an integral catch, maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “30” for the Vienna Mint, measuring 36.20 mm (w) x 43.77 mm (h), weighing 26.5 grams, demonstrating loss of finish throughout, in very fine condition.

3. A DRL Sports Badge, Bronze Grade, constructed of bronzed magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by a ribbon defaced by a mobile swastika, surrounding stylized initials “DRL”, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked “WERNSTEIN, JENA”, measuring 38.78 mm (w) x 48.24 mm (h), weighing 17.1 grams, in extremely fine condition.

4. A Sturmabteilung (SA) Sports Badge, Bronze Grade, constructed of bronzed magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of a circular oak leaf wreath, surrounding a central mobile swastika overlaid by a sword, the reverse with an integral hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked “BERG & BOLTE, LÜDENSCHEID”, measuring 45.68 mm (w) x 58.24 mm (h), weighing 16.8 grams, a Type II badge in extremely fine condition.
