Germany, SS. A Waffen-SS Officer’s Overseas Cap, Italian-Made by Berven

(Waffen-SS Schiffchen). A well-preserved Waffen-SS Officer’s overseas cap, constructed of field-grey gabarine wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side walls which gently slope toward the front. The edge of the walls is trimmed with a length of fine white wool piping. The peak demonstrates the unmistakable outline of an SS-style German national eagle insignia which has been carefully removed with only minimal disruption to the base material. Directly below the eagle is a similar outline consistent with the removal of an SS-tyle Totenkopf. The interior is fully encompassed by a field-grey herringbone twill (HBT) rayon liner. Stamped onto the right is a maker’s mark of “BERVEN, PADOVA”, indicating Italian construction, above a size mark of “56”. The cap measures approximately 28 cm (l) x 13 cm (h) when folded on a flat surface. Minor soiling is visible to the interior liner, but this field-worn cap remains in a better than very fine condition.
