Germany, SA. A Rare SA-Leibstandarte Downhill Skiing Champion’s Plaque, with Case

(SA-Leibstandarte Plakette mit Etui). Constructed of gilded zink, the obverse consisting of a circular medallion bearing a central SA-Leibstandarte insignia in the form of a cursive “L” defaced by an edelweiss and mobile swastika, circumscribed by an inscription of “SA-LEIBSTANDARTE / ERSTER IM ABFAHRTSLAUF A. KL. 1939” for first place in a downhill skiing competition, all in turn overlaying a pair of skis, unmarked, measuring 82 mm (w) x 110 mm (h), accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a pressed card stock frame with a faux dark blue leather exterior liner, the interior with a white rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a fitted grey velvet medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 115 mm (w) x 140 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), demonstrating minor loss of finish throughout the base metal of the plaque, which nonetheless remains in exceptional condition for a zink example, in overall extremely fine condition.
