Description
(Goldenes Ehrenzeichen der NSDAP). Constructed of gilded tombak with multi-coloured enamels, the obverse consisting of a circular oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, surrounding a white enameled medallion bearing a central black mobile swastika, in turn situated within a red enameled ring bearing a silvered inscription of “NATIONAL-SOZIALISTISCHE D.A.P.” (“NATIONAL SOCIALIST GERMAN WORKERS’ PARTY”), the reverse with a horizontal pinback affixed to a crimped base, stamped with a party membership number of “68893” for Albert Friedrich Wilhelm Hannemann, maker marked “DESCHLER & SOHN, MÜNCHEN”, measuring 30.45 mm in diameter, weighing 12.7 grams, demonstrating some surface chipping and cracking to the enamels, some of which has been repaired with an evident colour difference, in very fine condition.
Footnote: Albert Friedrich Wilhelm Hannemann was born on 27 March 1887 in Anklam, Pomerania. After school and employment as a dairy worker, he performed military service with Grand Ducal Mecklenburg Fusilier Regiment No. 90 from 1907 until 1909, before returning to the dairy industry. He resumed military service for the vast majority of the First World War, with active engagement from August 1914 until April 1918. Following the war, Hannemann again returned to the cattle and dairy industry, and it was in this capacity that he joined the NSDAP on 13 October 1922 as member #68893. As a master dairyman, he also rose to become head of the NSDAP cell in the village of Kirch Stück, near Schwerin. Now a high-ranking labour representative for dairy workers (through the aegis of the National Socialist Factory Cell Organization/NSBO and German Labour Front/DAF), Hannemann was also elevated to Zellenleiter of Ortsgruppe Rostock, and held other high-ranking local functionary positions within the DAF and NSDAP. He was subsequently awarded the NSDAP Long Service Award, III Class for 10 Years, in February 1940, as well as the War Merit Cross II Class in September 1942 with the recommendation of Kreisleiter Erich Loeper. During the closing stages of the war, Hannemann notably returned to combat as part of the Volkssturm. He was taken into Allied custody and held in Internment Camp No. 7 (Eselheide), where he died on 7 January 1947.
