Description
Description
(Luftwaffe weiße Sommermütze für Mannschaften der Luftnachrichtentruppe). A well-preserved Luftwaffe Air Communications Personnel EM/NCO’s summer visor cap. Of multi-piece construction, the lower half consists of a sturdy reinforced side wall lined on the exterior with a ribbed black mohair cap band, trimmed along both the top and bottom edges with saddle-brown wool piping. A small length of traditional Luftwaffe dark blue-grey wool is visible along the lower edge. The crown is topped by a white cotton/rayon blended cloth crown liner, with a protruding and vertically-oriented stabilizer to maintain the structural integrity of the peak of an accompanying cover. Pinned onto the peak is an aluminum Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, measuring 65 mm (w) x 40 mm (h) and maker marked on the reverse with the logo of Friedrich Linden, Lüdenscheid. Pinned onto the centre of the cap band is an aluminum combined wreath and cockade, with a vaulted bend to sit flush with the cap, measuring 130 mm (w) x 42 mm (h). Blackened magnetic metal studs flank the lower edge of the cap band to accommodate a multi-piece black leatherette chinstrap, adjusted with dual functional magnetic metal buckles. The exterior features complete with a protruding vulcanfibre visor which is finished in matte black on the obverse and in a dark green on the reverse. A wide grey leather sweatband surrounds the interior of the side walls, and has ventilation holes through the forehead. The crown retains a transparent plastic moisture guard which is maker marked with the “EREL” logo for the former firm of Robert Lubstein, Berlin. An additional silvered “EREL” mark is visible on the right side of the sweatband. The cap measures approximately 23.5 cm (w) x 27.5 cm (l) x 14 cm (h) overall. Some issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include some soiling to the cover, fatigue of the cap band piping and the interior liner near the peak, as well as soiling consistent with moisture exposure throughout the liner. The cap remains in a very fine condition.
