Description
Description
(Luftwaffe Fliegerschutzanzug). An extremely well-preserved Luftwaffe two-piece Channel flight suit, consisting of a jacket and trousers. The former is constructed of a tan-coloured cotton twill exterior, and features a high integrated collar. The cuff of each sleeve has a single reinforced buttonhole meeting a light-brown bakelite button. Stitched into the right breast flap is a brown leather strap formatted to feature dual loops. The jacket closes with a functional black metal zipper, with the clip bearing a mark of “RI-RI”. Located at the upper zipper is an integrated cotton strap with a functional metal snap button, facilitating a flush fit with the wearer’s neck. The exterior features are completed by functional dual metal snap buttons at the belt. Inside the jacket, the interior features a complete grey cotton liner, with an integrated cotton belt set into the lining and emanating from both ends. Each end of the belt is flanked by a metal buckle. An integrated cotton loop at the collar allows the jacket to be hung when not in use. Stitched into the left breast flap is a label bearing a maker’s mark of “KARL HEISLER, BERLIN C2, MAGAZIN STR. 14”. The jacket measures approximately 510 mm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 635 mm and an overall length of 675 mm. Age-appropriate oxidation is evident to the metal features, but the jacket is in an otherwise extremely fine condition.
It is accompanied by its period original trousers, similarly constructed of a tan-coloured cotton twill exterior. The trousers feature an integrated cotton belt set into the interior, emanating from both ends and meeting metal buckles for an adjustable fit. The waistband is also secured by a short integrated cotton strap with dual reinforced buttonholes meeting light brown bakelite buttons. The fly features a functional blackened metal zipper, also bearing a mark of “RI-RI”. The upper thighs are flanked by pockets, both of which open with functional vertical black metal zippers. Located at the front of each upper thigh is a deep pocket, opening with dual functional metal snap buttons, inside of which is a brown leather strap, also secured with a functional metal snap button. The upper right leg features an additional pocket, opening with three functional metal snap buttons. Additional integrated cotton loops are located at the right ankle, one of which is opened with a functional metal snap button. Each ankle opens with a functional vertical black metal zipper. The waistband features dual integrated suspender straps, each bearing a metal loop for attachment. The interior features a complete grey cotton liner, with an integrated loop at the waistband for hanging when not in use. The waistband is also stamped with a black ink maker’s mark of “KARL HEISLER, BERLIN C2, MAGAZIN STR. 14”. The trousers measure approximately 510 mm across the waist, with an inseam of 420 mm and an overall length of 1100 mm. Age-appropriate oxidation of the metal features is evident, but the trousers are in an otherwise extremely fine condition.
