Description

Constructed of gilded and silvered tombak, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, surrounding a Kriegsmarine destroyer cutting through waves, with its bow extending beyond the edge of the wreath, the reverse with a block hinge and tapering horizontal pinback meeting a flattened and rounded catch, maker marked “SCHWERIN, BERLIN 68” with the characteristics of the firm’s Variation 2 design, measuring 45.04 mm (w) x 53.86 mm (h), weighing 29.6 grams, a striking example retaining the entirety of its vibrant gilt finish, in extremely fine condition.
