Germany, Imperial. A Yellow Glazed Kpm Clawfoot Cup With Iron Cross Motif

A large cup in yellow glazed porcelain, featuring a black iron cross motif encircled by a gilt wreath opposite the handle, the handle depicts a serpent with open mouth around the lip, delicate embossed pebbled line near the base and lip, the lip features a wreath pattern with the interior edge gilded, three claw feet along the base, the bottom is marked with the classic red orb, KMP and blue scepter, with two iron crosses, numbered 125/594, with a slightly impressed P.H mark, measures 121mm (w- including handle) x 128mm (h), minor chips and wear to the feet, light scratches to gilding on lip, remains in near extremely fine condition.

Footnote: KPM (Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur) was created in 1763 and has been led by kings and emperors, providing tableware for every Prussian Kaiser thereafter. The first retail store was opened in Berlin in 1855. From 1919-1932, the company’s designs were largely influenced by New Objectivity, where less is more and patriotic symbols such as the Iron Cross were presented for individuals to show their support for Germany. The company is still active under a sole shareholder and continues to produce art and household items. The mark presenting an Orb with KPM below and a scepter was used until 1917.
