Description
Description
(Heer Sommerfeldbluse Hauptmann der Infanterie). A well-preserved Heer Infantry Hauptmann summer field tunic, constructed of field-grey cotton/rayon blended cloth. It features a turned-down collar which is fully lined with a layer of smooth dark green wool, with machine-stitched darts reinforcing the reverse. The collar is flanked on each side by tabs which are constructed of dark green wool with buckram cores, topped with dual silver aluminum wire insignia bisected by white threaded tresses, and which measure 45 mm (w) x 70 mm (l). The shoulders are flanked by boards which are constructed of white wool with rigid card stock cores, topped by four bands of silver aluminum wire piping, and which are pinned with two gilded pips. Each measuring 35 mm (w) x 105 mm (l), the boards are secured in place with machine stitching at the seam of the shoulder, and with pebbled buttons on the inner edge. Four pleated pockets are set into the breasts, all closing with scalloped flaps perforated with reinforced buttonholes, in turn meeting pebbled buttons. Stitched onto the upper right breast just above the corresponding pocket is an insignia consisting of a field-grey rayon base, overlaid by a layer of silver-grey rayon threading, in turn bearing a machine-embroidered silver aluminum flat wire Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 110 mm (w) x 45 mm (h) overall. The tunic closes with five pebbled buttons on the right breast meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left. The interior is plain and fully unmarked. Measuring approximately 44 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 58 cm, and an overall length of 70 cm when folded on a flat surface, the tunic demonstrates minor signs of fatigue and soiling, both consistent with age and field wear. This interesting and untouched summer field tunic remains in a near extremely fine condition.
