Germany, Heer. A Panzeraufklärungsabteilung 40 Commemorative Medal, Modified for Wear, by Deschler & Sohn

(Panzeraufklärungsabteilung 40 Medaille). Constructed of a toned aluminum alloy, the obverse bearing a leftward-facing profile of a Heer soldier wearing a Stahlhelm, circumscribed by an inscription of “PANZERAUFKLÄRUNGSABTEILUNG 40”, the reverse bearing a central Odal run, flanked by dates “15. 8. 40-15. 4. 42”, situated above a laurel wreath and topped by an inscription of “14. PANZER DIV.”, the twelve o’clock position bears a post-manufacture, hand-punched eyelet for the accommodation of a fob-style chain with a locking loop, the reverse maker marked “DESCHLER, MÜNCHEN”, measuring 48 mm in diameter, the swastika formerly visible at the six o’clock position of the obverse has been ground out to permit post-war wear, an interesting example modified by the recipient and veteran of an armoured reconnaissance unit for post-war display, in very fine condition.
