(Heer Verleihungsurkunden). A lot of four award documents to Horst Schmidt, including one for a Black Grade Wound Badge, constructed of off-white paper stock with black ink, named to Schmidt as a Gefreiter of 20. Panzer-Division, issued in Russia on 29 March 1942, featuring a handwritten signature of an unidentified Hauptmann and Divisional Adjutant, measuring 148 mm (w) x 210 mm (h), in extremely fine condition; one for a 1939 Iron Cross II Class, constructed of off-white paper stock with black ink, named to Schmidt as a Gefreiter of Panzer-Pionier-Bataillon 92 (20. Panzer-Division), featuring a handwritten signature of Division Commander General Wilhelm Ritter von Thoma (Knight’s Cross), dated 12 April 1942, measuring 140 mm (w) x 200 mm (h), in extremely fine condition; one for a Silver Grade Wound Badge, constructed of off-white paper stock with black ink, named to Schmidt as a Gefreiter of 20. Panzer-Division, issued on 20 June 1942 in Striegau (now Strzegom, Poland) for a single wound suffered on 28 March 1942, measuring 140 mm (w) x 200 mm (h), in extremely fine condition, and; one for an Eastern Front Medal, named to Schmidt as an Unteroffizier, issued on 1 July 1943, measuring 140 mm (w) x 200 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.
Footnote: During Schmidt’s recorded time with 20. Panzer-Division, the unit was deployed on the Eastern Front, largely fighting defensive actions against the Red Army during the late winter and early spring of 1942, where it was deployed to the Orel sector. At the time of Schmidt’s final recorded award, the unit was preparing for deployment to the Battle of Kursk.
