(Rudolf-Diesel-Medaille). Instituted in 1953. In gilt cast fine zinc, obverse illustrating the left-facing bust of Rudolf Diesel and inscribed "RUDOLF DIESEL" below the bust, reverse inscribed "EHRE DEM VERDIENST" within an open-ended wreath of laurel leaves, surrounded by the inscription "DEUTSCHER ERFINDERVERBAND NÜRNBERG" and engraver marked "L. CAR. LAUER NÜRNBERG", measuring 60.3 mm in diameter, light contact and spotting, near extremely fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, black pebbled exterior, white synthetic lining on the inside lid, recessed medal bed in navy blue felt, push release closure, scuffing evident on the exterior, soiling present on the inside lid, case very fine.
Footnote: The Rudolf Diesel Medal is an award by the German Institute for Inventions in Nuremburg (Deutsches Institut für Erfindungswesen [de], D.I.E.) in memory of Rudolf Diesel, for inventions and the entrepreneurial and economical implications accounting to the laureate. Since 1953, the award has been presented yearly until 1969, and then irregularly every two or three years.
