Description
Description
A very well-preserved French Model M1915 Adrian Helmet for pioneer troops, constructed of a magnetic metal alloy shell with its original grey-blue painted exterior. The crown features a raised die-stamped magnetic metal comb secured in place with rivets fastened at the three, six, nine, and twelve o’clock positions. Fastened to the peak of the helmet is a magnetic metal insignia bearing dragoon’s armour, indicative of pioneer troops. The armour is overlaid by raised initials “RF” for République française (French Republic), and the insignia measures 45 mm (w) x 70 mm (h). The lower portion of the shell flares into an outward brim, with the edge rolled back and crimped into a smooth edge. Two sets of dual rivets flank each side of the helmet, securely maintaining the multi-piece structure. A narrow magnetic metal frame is set around the interior circumference, secured in place with the aforementioned exterior rivets. The frame holds in place a fully intact black leather liner, which bears seven integrated flaps, each perforated with an eyelet through which is looped a period original drawstring. Emanating from the sides of the helmet are two magnetic metal loops which retain a period original chinstrap, itself constructed of black leather and adjusted with a single magnetic metal buckle. Underneath the liner is a black ink size stamp of “58”. The helmet is otherwise unmarked and measures 210 mm (w) x 290 mm (h) x 140 mm (h). Minor issues consistent with age and field use are evident, including some scratching and loss of paint to the exterior, denting of the shell, as well as material fatigue to the leather elements. A field-used example in overall better than very fine condition.
