(Médaille Patriotique d’Alsace 1870-1914). In silver, Paris Mint marked "1 ARGENT" (silver) flanked by dual cornucopias on the edge, obverse illustrating the left-facing bust of Alsacienne in traditional dress, inscribed "ALSACE" to the left and "1870-1914" to the right of the bust, engraver marked "G. PRUD’HOMME" (Georges-Henri Prudhomme, 1873-1947), reverse with a view of Strasbourg Cathedral, a house in the right foreground with storks nesting on the chimney, with an un-named ivy-clad plaque at the base, measuring 31.5 mm (w) x 35 mm (h) inclusive of its integral suspension, bruised, light contact, on a modern French tri-colour ribbon, better than very fine.
Footnote: The Patriotic Medal for Alsace was produced early in the First World War, in anticipation of the reincorporation of Alsace into the French Republic and used for a variety of different purposes, including award by the Red Cross for relief work in Alsace, and to the military, such as the First and Seventh Territorial Battalions of the Chasseurs Alpins who were prominent in the liberation of Alsace.
