Legion of Honor (Type VI, La Presidence, 1851-1852), a silver Maltese Cross with white enamelled arms and ball finials, with green enamelled arms in each quadrant, the obverse medallion in Gold presents a right-facing portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte, surrounded by the inscription NAPOLEON EMPEREUR DES FRANCAIS in a dark blue enamelled ring, the reverse medallion in Gold presenting an eagle on the reverse, surrounded by the inscription HONNEUR ET PATRI, the badge is surmounted by a crown with eight half arches, hallmarked on reverse at 6 o’clock with boars head denoting French manufacture post-1838, measures 40.60mm (w) x 64.20mm (h – inclusive of crown suspension), worn on original red ribbon, attached to frame, several large chips to white enamel arms, heavy wear to 2 o’clock of obverse medallion and 6 o’clock to reverse medallion, very dark patina, ball finial at 9 o’clock heavily bent, overall near very fine condition.
Crimea Medal with SEBASTOPOL clasp, in silver, the obverse presenting a left-facing portrait of Victoria, the reverse depicts a relief of a soldier being adorned with a laurel crown by a winged female, worn on a scroll suspension, measures 36.25mm in diameter, worn on original ribbon with SEBASTOPOL clasp, attached to original presentation frame, dark patina, light contact around edges, clasp partially bent and warped, in very fine condition.
Both medals are attached to the original frame, which presents a brown velvet base (faded from green), with two small leather pieces, one near the top of the frame stamped CRIMEE and the second, below the medals stamped SOUVENIR DU CAPITAINE MARTY, contained in an ornate wooden frame, the reverse with a patterned board background with contemporary screws and horizontal hanging wire, the frame measures 345mm (w) x 275mm (h) x 25mm (d), wear to exterior of frame, heavily chipped, velvet medalbed lifting slightly from corners.
