Estonia, Independent. An Order Of The Eagle Cross, Second Class Commander, By Roman Tavast, c.1930

(Kotkaristi teenetemärk). Instituted 1928 by the Estonian Defence League. Civil Division. Of local manufacture, a black-enamelled Maltese cross in bronze gilt, with obverse centre presenting a silver Estonian Eagle clutching a sword and a blue-enamelled Estonian coat of arms, reverse centre with institution date of 24 II 1928, with motto Pro Patria (For Fatherland) splitting on arms, measuring 56.00 mm (w) x 56.00 mm (h), with elongated ornate suspension loop, suspended by original neck ribbon with catches in the ends, enamel loss to reverse 6 o'clock arm tips, very fine. 

Footnote: Instituted 1928 by the Estonian Defence League to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Estonian independence. It is bestowed in recognition of military services and services in the field of national defence. It is awarded in civil and military divisions. The awards made to members of the military forces are denoted by the addition of crossed swords.
