Description
Hardcover, textured navy blue cloth cover, the image of the regimental coat-of-arms on the front cover and the text on the spine in gold-coloured ink, the arms framed by embossed L-shaped decorations in all four corners, entitled "Historical Records of the New Brunswick Regiment, Canadian Artillery 1793-1896", compiled by Captain John B.M. Baxter (a member of the Nova Scotia Historical Society), published by the Officers of the Corps, for private distribution, First Edition, printed by The Sun Printing Company, Limited of Saint John, New Brunswick in 1896. It begins with a Preface by the author, followed by an Index to Contents (AKA Table of Contents). The lead page is inscribed "Presented to The Governor General's Body Guard Toronto by the New Brunswick Regiment, Canadian Artillery, with the compliments of The Corps", with the personalized inscriptions in handwritten black ink. The book details the history of the New Brunswick Regiment of Artillery, beginning with the landing of the Loyalists at the mouth of the Saint John River in May 1793 to the publication of the book in 1896. The book contains twenty chapters: I - 1793; II - 1794-1811; III - 1812-1815; IV - 1816-1837; V - 1838; VI - 1839; VII - 1840-1843; VIII - 1844-1859; IX - 1859; X - 1860; XI - 1861; XII - 1862-1864; XIII - 1865-1868; XIV - 1869-1876; XV - 1877-1884; XVI - 1885-1893; VII - The Sergeant-Major and Non-Commissioned Officers; XVIII - The Band; XIX - The Fortifications; XX - 1893-1896 - Conclusion. It concludes with a series of Appendices and a seven-page Index. The book contains 268 pages of text in English, printed in black ink, on an off-white paper stock, plus multiple black and white photographic plates interspersed throughout the book, the photos printed in black ink, on a semi-coated white paper stock, measuring 150 mm (w) x 208 mm (h) x 22 mm (d). It exhibits light wear and soiling on the textured navy blue cloth cover, moderate edge wear on the title page, along with scattered scuff marks and spotting on a few pages, however, most of the pages within remain pristine. Very fine.
