In die-stamped patinated bronze, unmarked, measuring 78 mm (w) x 109.5 mm (h), both lugs intact, contact marks evident on the "8", residue buildup overall in the recessed areas on the obverse, better than very fine.
Footnote: The Royal Rifles of Canada originated in Quebec City, Canada East, on February 28, 1862, when The 8th Battalion, Volunteer Militia Rifles, Canada was authorized. It was re-designated the 8th or Stadacona Volunteer Militia Rifles on March 28, 1862; the 8th Battalion "Royal Rifles" on April 6, 1877; the 8th Regiment "Royal Rifles" on May 8, 1900; The Royal Rifles of Canada on March 29, 1920; the 2nd (Reserve) Battalion, The Royal Rifles of Canada on November 7, 1940 and The Royal Rifles of Canada on June 1, 1945. On February 22, 1965, it was amalgamated with Les Voltigeurs de Québec. On November 1, 1966, these two regiments ceased to be amalgamated and the regiment was reduced to nil strength and transferred to the Supplementary Order of Battle. The design of this badge is illustrated on page 70 of "Canadian Militia Badges Pre 1914" by Daniel Mazeas (HP.89.).
