1930-1936 Issue. Die-stamped insignia in silver, King's crown and ribbon banner inscribed "PRO PATRIA ET DUMUO" surmounting a wreath bearing the First World War battle honours of the regiment (Mount Sorrel, Arras 1917-18, Ypres 1917, Hindenburg Line, Somme 1916, Hill 70, Amiens, Pursuit to Mons), with the boar's head above the maple leaf in the centre, the base of the wreath with a ribbon banner inscribed "THE LORNE RIFLES (SCOTTISH)" (the name of the regiment between 1931 and 1936) backed by a bow-tied ribbon, with a horn below surmounted by the number "20", the plate measures 89 mm (w) x 105 mm (h) with four posts (puppy paws) on its reverse, very fine.
Footnote: The Lorne Rifles (Scottish) originated in Milton, Ontario, on September 28, 1866, as the 20th "Halton Battalion of Infantry". It was re-designated the 20th "Halton" Battalion of Rifles on January 12, 1872, as the 20th Halton Battalion "Lorne Rifles" on November 11, 1881, as the 20th Halton Regiment "Lorne Rifles" on May 8, 1900, as the 20th Regiment, Halton Rifles on December 1, 1909, as The Halton Rifles on May 1, 1920 and The Lorne Rifles (Scottish) on November 1, 1931. On December 15, 1936, it was amalgamated with The Peel and Dufferin Regiment.
