Description

A Memorial Cross, in silver, reverse engraved 15027 Pte. R. S. GORDON, marked STERLING on reverse 6 o’clock arm, missing ribbon, lovely patina, extremely fine.

A Victory Medal, in bronze gilt, rim impressed 15027 PTE. R.S. GORDON. F.G.H., light wear, extremely fine.

Footnote: Robert Stewart Gordon was born in Scotland in 1888. He was employed as a labourer when enlisted on September 24, 1914 at Valcartier.

He disembarked the SS Lapland in England roughly one year after enlisting. He was taken on strength by the Fort Garry Horse Regiment, and then the Canadian Reserve Cavalry Regiment, eventually proceeding overseas with this force in December 1917. He landed in France on December 21, 1917, and was taken on strength by the F.G.H.

He was reported dangerously wounded on February 14, 1918, after suffering multiple gunshot wounds (to the left thigh, right hip, back of left hand, and head). He was treated at the Casualty Clearing Station, but ultimately succumbed to his wounds. He was reported to have died of wounds on that same day.
