A 1914-15 Star, in bronze, reverse impressed 33832 PTE A. CRANE. CAN. A.M.C., original ribbon, minor wear, extremely fine.
A War Medal, in silver, rim impressed 33832 PTE. A. CRANE. C.M.A.C, original ribbon, dark patina and wear, very fine.
A War Medal, in silver, rim impressed 2751081 PTE. A. CRANE. C.F.C., original ribbon, extremely dark patina, very fine.
A Victory Medal, in bronze gilt, rim impressed 33832 PTE. A. CRANE. C.M.A.C, original ribbon, moderate wear, very fine.
A Veteran’s Association medal, in silver, reverse marked STERLING, measures 38.9 mm (w) x 42.4 mm (h), with clasps IMPERIAL, ARMY AND NAVY, VETERANS, original ribbon, very dark patina, very fine.
Footnote: Albert Crane was born in March 1870, in Leicester, England. He was employed as a Caretaker in Toronto when he initially enlisted on September 23, 1914 at the age of 44. He was married with ten children.
He served overseas as an orderly to Major Dicton at the First Canadian Casualty Clearing Station . In September 1916, he was classified as “C” aged (overaged) and transferred to England, ultimately being discharged. His second enlistment date was January 15, 1917, where he states he had 28 months of experience with the #1 Casualty Clr. A.M.C as a private. He was back in Liverpool in May, 1917.
Crane’s discharge certificate of March 12, 1918 states that he was medically unfit to continue service. However, he enlisted again on the same date, with his papers stating he had previously served with the Forestry Draft for 1 year, and with the C.A.M.C. for 2 years and 5 months.
He was discharged June 5, 1918 due to senility. Crane died on August 28, 1966.
