A 1916-17 Small Box Pattern Gas Mask, attributed and named to Lieutenant Gilmore of the 2nd Battalion, in complete yet delicate condition, marked with broad arrow over 100 on leather strap, and importantly marked "Lieut.. S.J.Gilmore. 2nd Bn." in black ink, fair condition.
Acquired with lot number C7613, attributed to Lieutenant Gilmore of the 2nd Battalion. Gilmore's Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal was sold by eMedals in 2023, lot number C5214. Captain S.J. Gilmore of the 16th Prince Edward Regiment (Canadian) received this medal by G.O. 107 in 1917. He was also a recipient of the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers' Decoration while with the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment in 1908 and the Volunteer Officers' Decoration in 1921.
Sydney James Gilmore was born in 1879 in Prince Edward County, Ontario and had extensive previous military experience with the 16th Militia prior to joining with the CEF in December of 1914.
