Instituted March 12 1890 by Emperor Franz Joseph I. (1890-1917). In bronze gilt, a medal with the obverse features a profile of Karl I, the reverse presents the inscription SIGNVM LAVDIS surrounded by an oak and laurel wreath, the medal is surmounted by dual crowns of the Austrian Empire and Kingdom of Hungary, marked BRONZE on rim, measures 30.6mm (w) x 45.5mm (h – inclusive of integral ring), weighs 21.9 grams (including ribbon), worn on ribbon with cross swords device, light wear, minor gilt wear, in near extremely fine condition.
Contained in its case of issue featuring a red leatherette exterior, with Austro-Hungarian Coat of Arms on the lid, the interior presents SCHEID G. A. BUDAPEST. maker mark on lid, with black velvet recessed medalbed, measures 61.5mm (w) x 108.5mm (l), hinge and catch functional, wear to exterior, in very fine condition.
