(Auszeichnungen und Abzeichen mit Schaukasten). An extensive lot of 23 awards and badges affixed to a customized shadow box, notably featuring:
1. A 1939 Iron Cross II Class, constructed of iron and silver, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central mobile swastika, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1939”, the reverse six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1813”, the suspension loop maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “76” for Ernst L. Müller, Pforzheim, measuring 44.37 mm (w) x 48.10 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
2. An Eastern Front Medal, constructed of silvered and patinated zink, on loop for suspension, the obverse bearing a raised Heer-style German national eagle clutching a swastika, the reverse bearing a raised inscription of “WINTERSCHLACHT IM OSTEN 1941/42” (“WINTER BATTLE IN THE EAST 1941/42”), above a crossed sword and laurel branch, topped by a Stahlhelm and stick grenade, the suspension loop maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “92” for Josef Rückert & Sohn, Gablonz, measuring 35.70 mm (w) x 44.34 mm (h), weighing 20.4 grams, the medal has been severed from its stitching on the board and demonstrates some loss of finish, in near extremely fine condition.
3. A Black Grade Wound Badge, constructed of blackened bronze, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, around a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a raised barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked, measuring 36.52 mm (w) x 44.00 mm (h), weighing 13.2 grams, demonstrating moderate loss of finish throughout, in very fine condition.
4. A Silver Grade Wound Badge, constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, around a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with an integral hinge and vertical pinback meeting an integral catch, maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “65” for Klein & Quenzer, Idar-Oberstein, measuring 36.52 mm (w) x 43.89 mm (h), weighing 28.9 grams, in extremely fine condition.
5. Four award miniatures, including an Imperial Silver Grade Wound Badge, a Wehrmacht Silver Grade Wound Badge, and two featuring combined 1939 Iron Crosses II Class with Silver Grade Wound Badges, the latter two with their pins removed and embroidered to the board, in overall very fine condition; also including two 1939 Iron Cross II Class boutonnieres, in near extremely fine condition.
6. An Honour Cross of the World War 1914/1918 for Combatants, constructed of bronzed magnetic metal, on loop for suspension, consisting of a Cross Pattée with crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the obverse bearing central wreathed dates “1914-1918”, the reverse bearing an unidentified maker’s mark, measuring 37.47 mm (w) x 42.32 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
7. A Deutsches Jungvolk Proficiency Badge, Silver Grade, constructed of silvered bronze, the obverse consisting of a Sig rune overlaid by a central mobile swastika, set within a circular ring bearing an inscription of “FÜR LEISTUNGEN IM D.J.” (“FOR MERIT IN THE D.J.”), the reverse with a vertical pinback and stamped with an issue number, measuring 27.05 mm (w) x 44.20 mm (h), solidly pinned to the board and in extremely fine condition.
8. Two Heer Gebirgsjäger cap insignia, each constructed of zink with gilded stamens (one constructed of magnetic metal), both without visible marks and measuring 38 mm (w) x 58 mm (l), in near extremely fine condition.
9. Supplemented by nine additional badges, including two German-language Catholic Miraculous Medals, an 1843 French-issued Fire Insurance medal in silver, two Soviet Red Cross/Red Crescent decorations, and three commemorative pins and badges, in overall near extremely fine condition.
All pinned or stitche to a padded red wool back secreted within the frame of a wooden shadow box with an intact glass face, retaining a period studio photo of an unidentified Heer Enlisted soldier at the top right corner, measuring 24.5 cm (w) x 35.5 cm (h), with detachment of the board from the frame, an interesting assembly in very fine condition.
