A Latin cross constructed of gilded silver and enamel, the obverse centre bears the right-facing portrait of Herzog Albrecht on a white enamel field encompassed by a blue enamel border inscribed with “ALBERTUS ANIMOSUS” (ALBERT THE MERCIFUL) with arabesque detailing at the bottom, the arms of the cross are of white enamel, two upwards facing crossed swords lay in the quadrants between the arms superimposed over a green enamel oak leaf wreath, the reverse centre bears the coat of arms of Saxony on a white enamel field encompassed by a blue enamel border with arabesques at the top and inscribed at the bottom with “1850”, worn on a folded ribbon attached to a metal plate for presentation, marked S on the edge of the 6 o’clock arm denoting G. A. Scharffenberg, Dresden, measures 37.5 mm (w) x 43.8 mm (h), enamels chip to reverse 9 o’clock arm in extremely fine condition.
