In response to evolving domestic opinion, eMedals Inc has made the conscious decision to remove the presentation of German Third Reich historical artifacts from our online catalogue. For three decades, eMedals Inc has made an effort to preserve history in all its forms. As historians and researchers, we have managed sensitive articles and materials with the greatest of care and respect for their past and present social context. Description
Hardcover, bluish-gray cloth cover, with dust jacket, the graphics on the front cover in red ink, the text on the spine in gold-coloured ink, entitled "Small Arms Makers - A Directory of Fabricators of Firearms, Edged Weapons, Crossbows and Pole Arms", by Colonel Robert E. Gardner, copyrighted in 1963 by the author, published by Crown Publishers, Inc. of New York, printed in the United States, Library of Congress Catalog Card Number 62-20058. As noted on the dust jacket: "This comprehensive encyclopedia is an invaluable aid to the collector of antique arms. It lists the names, locations, dates, and products of over 13,000 fabricators of small weapons: firearms, edged weapons, crossbows, and polearms. European marks (American makers did not use marks) are illustrated and identified. Colonel E. Gardner has been collecting small arms for over forty-two years and, at the same time, studying the history of their makers and identifying marks they may have used. His own collection, an extensive one, includes a small cannon made for the Duke of Flanders in 1570, some helmets beaten by hand out of a ball of metal, from the same year, and an 1803 Spanish pistol. Colonel Gardner is the author of "Arms Fabricators, American Arms and Arms Makers", and "Five Centuries of Gunsmiths, Swordsmiths and Armourers from 1400 to 1900". It begins with a Table of Contents, followed by a single page Foreword by the author. The book is divided into four Parts: I - American Gunmarkers; II - American Bladesmiths and Polearms Makers; III - Foreign Gunmakers; IV - Foreigh Fabricators of Edged Weapons, Polearms, Crossbows, and Projectiles. It concludes with a four page Bibliography. The book contains 384 pages of text only, printed in black ink, on a thick off-white paper stock, measuring 215 mm (w) x 285 mm (h) x 40 mm (d). It exhibits foxing on the edges of the pages, one small spot on the front cover, along with edge wear, tearing and repair on the dust jacket, however, the pages within remain unaffected. Better than very fine.
