Queen’s South Africa Medal. Instituted 1899. Type I. In silver, rim officially engraved 5428 Pte. G. LOVELL. Glouc. Rgt. with RELIEF OF KIMBERLEY, PAARDEBERG, DRIEFONTEIN, TRANSVAAL clasps, cleaned, likely brooch mounted at one time and suspension reattached later (slightly loose), light wear, notable wear to edges, near very fine.
King’s South Africa Medal. Instituted 1902. In silver, rim officially impressed 5428 PTE G. LOVELL. GLOUCESTER: REGT with SOUTH AFRICA 1901 and SOUTH AFRICA 1902 clasps, cleaned, minor scratches, small edge knocks, very fine.
Accompanied by three photocopies of medal rolls.
Footnote: Gilbert Lovell was born in Stapleton in 1879. He attested at Gloucester Depot, Bristol, at the age of 19 years, 10 months, in 1898. He was posted to the 2nd Gloucester Regiment in 1899. Lovell served in South Africa from January 1, 1900 to July 6, 1903. He was discharged by purchase. He enlisted with the RGA on October 19, 1903.
Lovell is present on the medal rolls for the King’s South Africa and Queen’s South Africa.
