A Second War period quality cap, with the body of the cap fabricated from a black wool, has a 43 mm wide red wool band, in the traditional flat top design with raised peak. The front is adorned with a bronze gilt Royal Artillery Cap Badge, measuring 64.4 mm (w) x 63.5 mm (h) . The black patent leather visor has a black two-piece patent leather strap resting along the top edge, held in position via brass Royal Artillery buttons on both sides, along with a raised 17 mm wide border on the brim covered in gold-coloured bullion wire, trimmed in gold-coloured bullion wire cord on either side. The underside of the visor has a green synthetic finish, the visor itself very stiff. The 52 mm wide sweatband is fabricated from cinnamon brown leather, with a thin suede patch along the front, the two ends of the sweatband are stitched together at the rear and completed by a light brown ribbon which is finished in a bow-tie. The sidewalls and dome are lined in a bright red rayon, with a "HAMILTON UNIFORM CAP COMPANY Ltd." manufacturer's stamp in the dome under the brown-tinted celluloid moisture shield. The visor exhibits crazing and surface wear in the patent leather and surface wear on the synthetic underside, sweatband shows very little wear, and remains in very fine condition.
