(旭日章 / Kyokujitsu_sho). Instituted in 1875. A Badge consisting of an eight-point star in silver gilt with white, green, and violet enamels, a dark red cabochon center, the reverse identical to the obverse, measures 54.9 mm (w) x 86.4 mm (h - inclusive of suspension and integral ring), weighs 55.78 grams, includes original neck ribbon, intact enamels, in mint condition. The Star of the order, constructed of a silver star base, superimposed on an eight-pointed base in silver with white arms and a dark red cabochon center, reverse presents a vertical pin flanked by dual stays, measures 91.2 mm (w) x 91.0 mm (h), weighs 123.35 grams, enamels intact, slight discolouration of silver near superimposed star, in near mint condition.
Contained in its hard shelled case of issue, balsa wood frame, gilt characters on the lid, inside lid lined in violet satin and padded, base in violet satin, with a platform incorporating a recessed medal bed in violet felt, measures 115 mm (w) x 235 mm (h) x 50 mm (d), functional hinge and clasp, extremely fine.
Accompanied by the boutonniere of the order, a lovely rosette with half silver and half golden ribbons below, and the official Imperial Ordnance booklet for Military Wear, bent to fit in the box of the case, in very fine condition.
All pieces contained in the original cardboard box.
