Germany, Luftwaffe. A Rare Reconnaissance Clasp, Gold Grade with 200 Pendant, by Brüder Schneider

(Frontflugspange für Aufklärer in Gold mit Anhänger 200). Constructed of gilded zink, the obverse consisting of a circular laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by a swastika, surrounding a central raised eagle’s head, flanked on each side by nine oak leaves, with dual loops emanating from the lower edge for the accommodation of a zink pendant bearing a blackened number “200” flanked by laurel leaves, the reverse with a single visible rivet securing the eagle’s head in position, with a barrel hinge and tapering horizontal pinback meeting a flat wire catch emanating from a circular plate, maker marked with the logo of Brüder Schneider, Vienna, the clasp measuring 76.31 mm (w) x 25.55 mm (h), the pendant measuring 35.55 mm (w) x 8.84 mm (h), weighing 21.8 grams, demonstrating total loss of gilt finish throughout the base metal, a scarce high-grade example of the sole Luftwaffe clasp produced by this manufacturer in very fine condition.
