Germany, Luftwaffe. A Pilot’s Badge, Type 6, by Friedrich Linden

(Flugzeugführerabzeichen). Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, overlaid by a swooping Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the obverse eagle in position, with a block hinge and vertical pinback meeting  round wire catch, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of a Type 6 badge produced by Friedrich Linden, Lüdenscheid, measuring 63.54 mm (w) x 53.14 mm (h), weighing 45.1 grams, demonstrating loss of silver finish to the base metal, some loosening of the eagle, and possible repair or replacement to the catch rendered indeterminate by this variant’s characteristic excess use of solder, in very fine condition.
